BARCELONA (AFP) - Spanish police have arrested an Ecuadorian woman who tried to smuggle into Barcelona liquid cocaine hidden in spray cans of products to starch clothes or clean glass, police said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old was carrying more than 1.5 kilos (3.3 pounds) of the drug hidden in false bottoms in three spay cans found in the baggage she checked in on her flight from Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city, they said in a statement.

Two of the spray cans were for products used to starch clothes while the third was for a glass cleaning product, the statement added.

Barcelona's El Prat airport has been the scene in recent days of creative attempts to smuggle cocaine into Spain, the main entry point for the drug into Europe.

On Friday police arrested a 66-year-old Chilean man at the airport after discovering that his broken leg was supported by a "cast" made out of cocaine.

The man, who had hobbled off a flight from Santiago, was carrying more of the drug in fake beer cans and two hollowed-out stools.

Police suspect he may have fractured bones in his leg on purpose so as to use the cast without raising suspicions at security checks.

In total, he had 4.85 kilos of cocaine stuffed in the cans, the stools and forming his would-be "cast", police said.

Earlier this month police detained an Ecuadorian man at El Prat after he was found to have transported more than four kilos of cocaine hidden in 52 chocolate bars on a flight from Colombia, the world's top producer of the drug.

This follows along the same lines as the movie traffic. Now what would have been better is if the cast would have been made out of cocaine.
