Hey fta-ers, I am about to trade in one of my DSLR's for one of the three cameras. Nikon D700, Canon 5D or my last choice is the olympus E3. I am currently using the olympus E-500 and E-510 with 5 lenses and Fl 50 flash. I am trying to justify me spending just over $5000 for a new setup. What are your expert opinions on these DSLR's? I shoot portraits, landscapes and sport shots and will be working on infrared and macro's soon.

depends on your preference all 3 cameras are almost just as good but Canon & Nikon tend to have the highest picture quality. I personally have been using canon for my years and they have been amazing.

I like the Canon, take a look here http://www.ftatalk.com/showthread.php?t=183114 for a pic I took with a Canon 200MM telephoto and a EOS digital.

I have been shooting with Nikon's for about 35 years when it came time to go digital I went to Canon. I belong to a group of pro photographers. They all agree that Canon had a slight lead. But now with the new Nikon flagship digital camera they all agree after a hands on test that Nikon has pulled ahead. How long this will last who can tell. With Canon and Nikon you can't go wrong good luck with the choice you make. I'm just glad they both have such a great choice of camera's to chose from. They also say that the lenses of the cameras have hit there peek while the sensors and electronics keep getting better and better out surpassing the ability's of the glass.

I would like to thank you all for your comments, I purchased the Nikon D700 kit with the 24-120 lens. I also bought anikon 50mm 1.8 lens.I didn't trade in my olympus stuff. (they were trying to give me chicken feed for them. I gave one to the lady of the house {to keep her trap shut about how much I spent} LOL..

I am about to buy either the nikon 85mm 1.4 or 1.8 $600 difference in price or the 105mm f/2.0D-DC AF Lens. What do you all think?:cucumber::biggrin1:

I was in the same situation, had olympus and needed a little more so I went with Nikon, have never been sorry except with the introduction of all the new models! Worse than computers. I use a D200 and will use it til it wears out. Love the Nikon Glass. I envy the D700, quantum leap in cameras.

The 85mm 1.8 is a nice lens

I spoiled myself with this Nikon, I have the 85mm1.4, 50mm 1.8, 24-120mm VR, and I got Lucky and my oldest son found a 18-70mm DX lens without the caps. They all work perfectly and I have to say that I am conflicted on which lens to purchase next. I have been trying to find the 70-200mm VR lens (out of stock all over) my other option is the 80-400mm.

I have a nice wish list, tell me what you think.:cucumber:

PC Nikkor 45mm f/2.8 ED and PC Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8
14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S NIKKOR
16mm f/2.8D AF Fisheye-NIKKOR
105mm f/2D AF DC-NIKKOR
200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR NIKKOR
105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR Micro NIKKOR

I am also taking charity, and all donations for my habit (chronic picture-take-is) LOL..
