I am in the process of modeling some old Lionel F3s, vintage 1955. I have a couple of bare shells and would like to paint them in the Western Pacific scheme. Does anyone know what paints would be a very close match to the orange used by Lionel. Also, what would be a good match for the silver used on the frames and bodies. Thanks in advance for any help. :radar:

do you have any of the original colors? your automotive paint shop could match them up and make you quarts, it is alot, but nice paint.

Thanks for the replies! As far as the BNSF orange from Testors, I don't have an original sample to test against so I wouldn't know how close of a match it is. Does anyone have a brand and number for this color (Western Pacific orange)? Does Lionel sell the original colors? I am new to this and need lots of help! I suppose I could get it close, but would prefer to be very close if possible.

try checking around ebay maybe, or google'ing it, as those loc's were probably produced on a full scale size

found this on google:

I was just at the Modelflex web site. They have a color chart of Railroad Colors.

Western Pacific Orange is listed there. I thought it was discontinued.

Color 16-89. They also sell it in gallon and quart sizes, I should try buying a quart.

replaces the xx's with t's

and you just opened a new world with me lol....look at all these original colors!! this picture is off the site listed...they sell all these colors....hmmmmmmm interesting

your color is in this pic......BNSF orange is on there too...there you go, now your all fixed up.

If you can find a Walthers catalog you will find all the colours you need and you may even find the proper decals you need. The catalog I have is for HO scale, but I am sure you can find an O scale book.
