i'm looking to purchase one of those computer dj programs. the ones that have a computer mixer and can download music from a hard drive. thus the need to eliminate the need of lugging all of those crates of cd's and cd players & a mixer. any suggestions? reviews? any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

A friend of mine runs a DJ business, He uses his laptop and winamp to dj now. He likes winamp due to the easy queing, the edibility of the lists, you can run winamp more than once if you so like. the playlists can be made larger and smaller. He also ripped all of his cd's in with media player, media player found all the info for all his cd's off the internet, no labeling was required (i believe winamp does this also, CDDB info)I know winamp rips, which would be better that WMP anyways. With his laptop he has 2 batteries. Reason being, he finds that being plugged into AC helps distort the sound a bit, running off batteries this does not happen. He also has some sort of a sound filter, it plugs into the usb port, and your sound out is off of this device, it does help filter the sound.

I have even dj'd at some weddings before, and used a laptop, we got a list of songs from them a week before hand, I dl them and did the wedding, no problems.

hope i could help

i contacted a couple of buddies. the response was using pc dj. actaully, i'm going to demo it this saturday. i like the idea of using the two batteries. i didn't know that using a/c current would cause distortion. there are many variables to that action. after saturday, i'll report back and let you guys know how i made out. thanks to everybody for all of the input.

Virtual DJ is a really nice application.

I agree with you on that it's what i use to dj parties. it's even better if you can get a midi controller turntables. all you need are mp3s but it supports cda .wav and many other formats. google atomix virtual dj. you wont be disappointed you can even mix videos not just mp3s using the virtual turntable builtin. efx can be customized and it has many other feature sure to get the party goin. autobeat match, etc.

i saw that. i actually downloaded the demo program. it looks nice, but i'm leaning towards that pc dj. again, you can seperate your music in to whatever folders you want. plus, and a huge sell to me, you can continiously stack music so i can leave my mixing board and not have to worry. i guess i got spoiled when i was in radio, usung audiovault. now THAT is a great program. it's too bad that they don't make a pc version (that i'm aware of).
