Can't load a bin to the receiver (actually three receivers with three computers).
This receiver's a FLU.
The bl loader 1.4.0.0.
Cable is correct, tested.
Bin is good.
Tested com port with old serial mouse.
Removed and reinstalled com port in device manager.
Rebooted computer with cable connected to receiver.
Checked modem to see if it's using same com port. It's com4, cable is connected to com2.
Tried second port, com1.
Tried wrong cable (null) in frustration.
Checked bios settings, ports are enabled.
Tryed different speeds, etc. for port.
Checked com settings against a computer that will program same receivers.
Manually edited 3 files used for com port: Serial.vxd, Serialui.dll, and Vmm32.vxd
(! fixed vxd with win98 boot disk and dos editing! Don't try this! lol... had to change my diaper).

It's a Hewlett Packard desktop at 900mhz or so with winMe.

I've had the same problems with two other computers, two running XP.

The receiver stops the b75 boot leaving a - on the display when a bin write is attempted, so there is at least SOME communication happening. The loader gives write failed.

Yes, I know I can just program the receivers with an old computer, but shouldn't have to.
No, it has nothing to do with the speed of the computer (!!!).

This has to be a common problem. I've scoured several sites to no avail.
The problem has been reported, no solutions were found, at least none posted.
Some of the suggestions offered were absurd, however. lol

Ok, whiz kids, any suggestions? :D

cheers, sneers

Have you tried windows hyper-terminal to load? You can use it as a loader...

Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Not very user friendly for the computer owners tho'.

check it out its fairly easy the reason i ask
this is i suspect its your bl loader something may have went corrupt
if you can load through hpyer terminal then i would uninstall the bl loader and all files pointing to it. then reinstall.....

The loader is a stand alone executable, not installed.

I checked size, no problem there.

Ouch ...

This same thing happens with all three systems and all three receivers, I mean you kind of have at least 9 possibilities (each receiver with each computer that's 9 attemps, then if we throw in the cables we get in to combinations)?

OT:
Just remembered the probability and permutation subject back in the days LOL
:focus:

Were you ever able to program these boxes before using same method and tools?

I don't have much experience with FTA and the error codes but trying to dig a bit deeper than the excellent information you have provided.

All boxes program fine with either of my laptops, one a P120 win95, the other PIII 900 win98. All using the same cables, same loaders, same bins.

For what it's worth, the only common factor with the three desktop computers (that won't program) is they are Hewlett-Packards. Probably a coincidence.

Let's try to free up some IRQs using the BIOS:

If you have the option "Plug and Pray OS installed", set it to NO.

Enable only one com port and set it to "com 1" at address "03F8" with the "IRQ 4"

If you use a USB printer, disable the Parallel port.

If you see an option for Symbios BIOS, SCSI or Logic, disable it.

Disable what you are not using or don't have as in floppy drive controller and such.

If you have a Modem, remove it.

Enable or select "Reset Configuration Data"

Save changes and exit.

Boot in to Windows, let it load for a few minutes, restart again and give it a try.

I can only think of resources or voltage supplied through the Serial port, there are other common issues with com ports but server and workstation related and then there is the fact that Windows cannot properly detect a disabled or defective port in the BIOS/ board, in the Device Manager set one port only.

Since it is an HP, I'm sure all the chipset drivers are installed, while you are at it, update the BIOS, load the defaults and do the changes again, you might want to see if there is an updated Chipset drivers for your board as well or just re-install the latest available.

The fact that it is not just one desktop but the three amigos and possibly a different OS, makes you think ... if you have time or wnat to bother, the above won't do any harm but good any way!

Let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions Mr Sharam.

Went into safe mode, ripped out both com ports and printer port.
In bios, disabled com1, made com2 3f8 and IRQ4.
Disabled parallel port.
Selected os other.

Powered down re started.

Let Winnders reinstall com 1 (really com 2, the front serial port for convenience).

Powered computer down and installed serial mouse. Restarted and tested port, fine.

Tryed to load with bl 1.4.0.0.

Same sh*t, different day. Only difference was using puff bin, load paused boot up on U on display.

:(

All I had time to try.
