Hi, i just bought a new pc and it doesnt come with the serial port where i can upgrade my reciever. I bought a pci serial card and im not sure if it will work for the new pc which is a HP pavillion media center m8300f.

Im a newbie with this kind of installing new hardware stuff and what PCI specs mean.

If you will kindly help me know if this is the right card i need for this and if it will work that'll be great.

Il post the key features and benifits of the pci card:

The model number: IOFLEX-2CS

-PCi bus Dual Serial Port with 9pin and 25- pin connectors.

-Power multi function PCI Bus specification 2.2

-power management 1.0 compliant

-baud rates up yo 15Mbps in asynchronous mode

-128-byte deep FIFO per transmitter and reciever

-Automated out-of-band flow control

-Zero wait-state read/write operation

-Fully plug n play

-Fully software compatible with 16c450 16c550 16c650 16c750 nd 16c950 UARTs

Sorry if this maybe be a stupid question to some but i just want to learn and know if this is what i need or if i should return it.

I have vista also just in case you need to know (btw, too much trouble with that OS)

Please someone il appreciate the advice.

The PCI is the BUS standard that you PC requires to use the card, i.e. the slot the card fits in.
If you have a spare slot that conforms to the edge connector of your card then you should be OK, the card most likely came with some kind of instructions, and for any jumpers that may have to be set.
The card is P&P so the PC should recognize it when you power up, and allow you so assign a COM port # which you will use with the FTA rec cable & software.
If the S/W asks for a COM port, enter the number you assigned.
I have heard about lots of problems with Vista!
